Hello. I was diagnosed with myopia (near-sightedness) when I was like 9 years old, and I have worn glasses ever since. I am 22 years old now and my vision has gotten progressively worse as expected, but in these past months it seems like my vision has been getting a lot worse at a much faster rate. Everything past a foot is a complete blur. I have to literally be like a foot away from the computer monitor in order to read the text. There are three things — which I’m about to describe in separate paragraphs below — that are possibly to blame, I just don’t know which one it is exactly and what I can do to fix the problem.

For one, I haven’t gotten a new eyeglass prescription in several years now. Last year I went to the eye doctor and got a prescription for contact lenses, but I rarely wear them, which means I wear my old, outdated glasses almost predominantly the entire day.

Secondly, these old, outdated glasses are broken. I accidently sat on them awhile ago and broke one of the nose rest pads and curved part of of one of the legs. They also got bended to hell, but I did my best to bend them back into shape. The end end result is that they fit on my face, but at an angle because one end is slightly higher than the other. I cannot do anything about it because they’re already on the verge of completely breaking. I have heard that wearing them at an angle is harmful and it strains your vision.

Lastly, in the past months I have been more stressed than usual and I’ve been spending a lot of time on the computer. By a lot of time, I mean almost half-a-day every day (with breaks in between ofcourse). When I’m on the computer at night, my eyes almost always hurt and my vision gets blurry, so I have to massage them constantly. It feels like they are having a hard time focusing.

What do you believe is going on with my eyes? Is it a correctable problem, is it just that my eyes are strained, or is my vision permanently messed up? i know I have been neglectful to my eyes but these past months have not been very good for me and I’m trying to get myself back in order, including my health. I cannot help but think that if I were ever in some kind of emergency, I would be at a severe disadvantage because of my poor eyesight and dire dependance on eyeglasses.
